Motorcycle Touring around Omeo
One of the more exciting motorcycle touring trips you can do is the loop through Omeo, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and back to Omeo, and our alpine valley retreat. From start to finish it is 229.5 km in length. You pass through some beautiful and picturesque spots such as Anglers Rest.
Stretch of the Great Alpine Road between Omeo and Anglers Rest has been described by some people as motorcycling paradise, those magnificent turns will keep your heart pumping. In Anglers Rest you can if you are keen try some fly fishing or just enjoy a well deserved break.
When arriving in Falls Creek do have a good look at both their winter, summer and Easter events calendar, there are some activities that may grab your attention or just enjoy the scenery and village atmosphere.
About 29 km from Falls Creek is Bogong Village do drive down there and have a look around. The walk around the dam is very enjoyable and low key, not much effort required to complete it, you will observe local fauna and flora and take in some nice views. Incidentally this is also a location of the newest hydro-electric plant in Victoria.
Beautiful Mt Beauty awaits down the hill. It’s a place where you can chill out and play golf or if you are an adrenaline junkie maybe paragliding is more your forte. Local bakery provides nice lunches and good coffee.
Both Freeburgh and Smoko are quite small towns, although you could try out some trout fishing near Smoko at a trout farm, and later sample your catch at Omeo. If you are not into fishing or cooking for that matter, the pub in Harrietville serves some nice counter meals including fresh local trout.
The drive through Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain is as picturesque as it gets, the views over Razorback Ridge and my personal favourite Mt Feathertop are worth a second look.
Final home stretch through Cobungra, biggest cattle station in Victoria will bring you back to Omeo, where you can enjoy a well deserved rest and sound sleep with the creek chatting in the background at our alpine valley retreat.
